Athlete Profile: Cathy Wong (Executive Secretary)

by Cathy Wong
(Manila, Philippines)

Sports: Cycling, Running (for cross-training)
Hometown:

Level: Recreational cyclist (I wake up everyday at 5 in the morning and train hard not because I’m preparing for a race but because cycling is a sport that I love!); sometimes I do get to join executive races.

Sports Accomplishments: did a short stint with the Philippine national cycling team several years ago

Who is your greatest influence in your sport?: Rodolfo Plaza (he’s my coach; he mentored and taught me the very basics of the sport).

How did you hear about Hornet Juice?: Through the internet – while browsing through triathlon websites, I saw the ad of Hornet Juice and read some of the testimonials which piqued my curiosity as to how it would affect my training.

How do you take Hornet Juice?: I take HJ every morning before I start training. I just mix it with water. On average, I take one a day since my rides are usually less than 2 hours long. I also take another one before my runs in the afternoon.

So what do you think about Hornet Juice?: I just started taking HJ last week and I love it! I’ve consistently taken it before I do my training rides which are always fast criterium-type rides with strong guys. We maintain an average speed of 37-38 kph with maximum speeds of over 50 kph. After taking HJ, I noticed that I had no lactic acid buildup even after doing maximal efforts.

Last Sunday, I was able to ride over 40 km with a group of cyclists. Our average speed was 38-39 kph (my cyclometer showed 38 kph) but that included the time we were warming up and cooling down. After a few minutes, I did some motorpacing (average speed was 40 kph) and I still felt good and strong! I believe HJ helps me to ride stronger and faster and most importantly, it also aids in recovery. I strongly recommend HJ to endurance athletes. I’m sure it’ll help them in racing and training!

Any other comments, parting words, words of wisdom to share?: There are so many life lessons one can learn from sports – like strength, perseverance, dedication, hard work, and so much more. Cycling and running is a part of who I am and a passion I pursue with gusto! It’s when I’m out there, feeling the sun and wind in my face, exerting every ounce of my strength that I feel most alive! Most of all, it’s my way of thanking God for each breath that I can take, each step that I can make!
